Frequently Asked Questions

You might have some questions about reflexology and how it works, so here are answers that will help you.

How long is a typical reflexology session?
The average reflexology session is 60 minutes. For very ill, frail or elderly persons, it is recommended that sessions last 30 minutes. If I feel a client needs more than 60 minutes, that will be at my discretion and there will be no additional charge.
How often should we meet?
The frequency of sessions is very individual. You will always have the final say in how often you schedule time with me.
Is there a typical treatment period? Weeks? Months?
A new client usually has sessions once a week for 3-4 weeks to address their most pressing issues and to get the wellness established. Clients in a good routine would usually schedule once a month for maintenance. Some clients schedule only when they have a need. Some clients seek treatment for only a specific time for a specific issue. Certain conditions might require sessions more than once a week. In these cases, special arrangements can be made for payments.
Do you only work on feet? If not, where else is reflexology applied?
It is my preference to work on a client's feet because I believe that brings the best results. However, I can also work on a client's hands or alternate between hands and feet if there is a reason to do so. I am happy to discuss any concerns you have about this topic.
What parts of my body are affected by reflexology?
Every part of the body is affected by reflexology. This includes all the major body systems such as the respiratory, integumentary, musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiovascular, lymphatic, digestive, urinary and reproductive. Reflexology also affects the endocrine system that includes all the glands such as the hypothalamus, pituitary, pineal, thyroid, parathyroid, thymus, adrenal and pancreas. All organs of the body including the heart, kidneys, stomach, liver, gall bladder and bladder receive benefit from reflexology. It also benefits all the sensory organs: ears, eyes, nose, tongue and skin. There is no part or function of the body that does not benefit from reflexology.
How do I know it is working?
You will know reflexology is working for you by paying attention to your body, emotions and symptoms. Do you feel more relaxed and less anxious? Are your symptoms decreasing? How is your energy level? Do you feel less depressed or anxious? Does some area of your body hurt less? Are your reports from the doctor at a healthier level?
Does reflexology hurt?
There can be some discomfort with reflexology and there might be pain. The pain sensation tells me that this is an area needing work. I will adjust my pressure to make the pain tolerable. You have input on the amount of pressure you can tolerate. We will go by the adage, "It hurts so good." If it hurts "so bad," I will change what I am doing. Another way I will moderate your discomfort is to work on the area briefly, go somewhere else on the foot, return to the first area, etc. until the first area is comfortable. This means both the area and the parts of the body it reflexes to are less stressed and functioning better.
